Good, Greasy Grief!
Are good hair days slip, slip, slipping away and leaving you with a greasy mess on your head?
You are not alone! As you begin puberty, the oil glands in your body become more active. You may notice this as your face becomes shinier or even breaks out with a pimple or two. But, did you know that it may also be the cause for hair that seems unusually greasy?
Every single strand on your head has its own individual oil gland. While these glands normally work to keep your hand shiny, bouncy and beautiful; when they begin working double-time, your hair can begin to seem more stringy and slippery.
While you may have been able to skip an occasional bath before, the only way to offset this increase in oil production is to increase your frequency of bathing. While some girls naturally produce more oil than others, there are some things you can do to ease the grease:
•Wash your hair every day to keep oil levels in check.
•When washing your hair, massage shampoo into the scalp and try to let the rest of your hair hang on the sides while shampooing it rather than piling it on top like a soapy helmet.
•Look for shampoo that is specially formulated for oily hair.
•If you need conditioner, use it only on the ends of your hair, not directly on your scalp.
•Use styling products that are oil free.
Getting use to your new hair needs can take time and a little trial and error. But, don't worry! With extra care, you can get those tresses looking their best. And remember, if all else fails, use the oil to your advantage by grabbing those strands into a sleek pony tail or bun.
